Year of the Ox

I wanted to make something for Chinese New Year and fancied doing something with paper. After spending some time learning about the 12 principles of animation, I wanted to start putting some of it into practise. I also wanted to play with a transition. Once I’d figured out a design for the ox head, I started planning the animation. I realised that I would need to shoot the movement in reverse, and since I could tell it would be quite challenging to get right, I did some tests in 2D using BrushNinja. It was important that the swish of the fan looked convincing, so I played with the movement till it felt right. Sound design is really important to me, so I wanted to try and add a little to this to enhance the action. I designed the action so that it would work as a looping video, check it out on my Instagram .
